Answer: Current military, space, and high reliability customers have concerns over the use of 100% Tin terminations in high reliability applications. KEMET’s response to these concerns is to offer a Tin/Lead termination product line for our valued customers.

Question: What is the Lead content of the Tin/Lead termination for the Tin/Lead termination ceramic surface mount capacitor product line?
Answer: KEMET Tin/Lead terminations contain a minimum of 5% lead content.

Question: Is the Tin/Lead termination ceramic surface mount capacitor product RoHS compliant?
Answer: For KEMET MLCC commercial surface mount components, the end termination determines compliance to RoHS. If the specified end termination is Tin/Lead, the product is not RoHS compliant.

Question: What dielectrics and voltages are available with theTin/Lead termination ceramic surface mount capacitor product?
Answer: Currently, KEMET is offering Tin/Lead termination products in C0G, X7R, & X5R dielectrics. The voltage ratings offered are from 6.3V up to 200V. Please contact local Sales personnel for information regarding the availability of alternate dielectrics and higher voltage ratings.

Answer: Besides the final plating finish KEMET’s standard 100% Matte Tin terminations and the Tin/Lead terminations are identical. For both termination options KEMET utilizes a copper or silver frit system that is barrier plated with Nickel. Depending on termination choice the final termination layer is then plated over the nickel barrier layer.
