Commercial High Voltage Leaded Capacitors Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What makes the High Voltage GoldMax product line “high voltage?” Answer: Until the acquisition of the Sierra-KD line in July of 2003, KEMET’s maximum ceramic capacitor voltage offering was 200 Volts. With this release, KEMET now offers a line of radial leaded conformally coated commercial components with the voltage range of 500 Volts to 3000 Volts. Equivalent components to higher voltages (up to 10 kV) are offered in KEMET’s High Voltage Specialty product line.
Question: For the High Voltage GoldMax series what is the ultimate voltage breakdown UVBD per voltage rating? Answer: It exceeds the DWV requirements.
Question: What is the difference between the GoldMax C3xx and the C6xx High Voltage Series? Answer: The C3xx HV Series is an extension of the existing Golden Max product line. The dimensions and lead spacing per case size are the same as the current 50V, 100V and 200V offerings. The C6xx HV Series is a new offering. The component body dimensions are close to MIL-PRF-49467, thickness is equal to or less than that offered in MIL-PRF-49467. The lead spacing is per MIL-PRF-49467.
Question: Are the High Voltage GoldMax series parts 100% DWV tested, at the following criteria 1.5Vr < 1kV and 1.2Vr > 1 kV? Answer: Yes.
Question: Has the High Voltage GoldMax series product line been qualified? Answer: Yes, the qualification data will be available upon request.
Question: What are the special features of this Commercial High Voltage GoldMax Radial Leaded component? Answer: The HV Golden Max High Voltage Radial Leaded component has operating voltages up to 3000 volts, offers high capacitance with low leakage current, and low ESR at high frequency. Offerings include standard Golden Max lead spacing (C3xx Series) and lead spacing equivalent to MIL-PRF-49467 (C6xx Series).
Question: What are the markets for the High Voltage GoldMax series? Answer: Markets include: Power supply, DC-DC converter, LCD Fluorescent Backlight Ballast, HID Lighting, Telecommunications Equipment, Industrial Equipment/Control, Medical Equipment/Control, Computer (LAN/WAN Interface), Analog and Digital Modems.
Question: For the High Voltage GoldMax series compare the Voltage coefficient of capacitance, Impedance curves, and Q factor to standard ceramic MLCC by dielectric. Answer: The data is available in the Qualification package.
Question: What are the aging rates for the High Voltage GoldMax series? Answer: The aging rates are the same as standard X7R and C0G part types.
Question: Why is the High Voltage GoldMax leaded ceramic capacitor product line being offered by KEMET? Answer: Our existing KEMET high voltage specialty product line is military and space quality grade and includes an offering up to 10K volts. The HV Golden Max Capacitor features 500Vdc to 3kVdc and is a commercial grade component with standard commercial testing.
Question: Is the High Voltage GoldMax leaded product lead-free, RoHS compliant? Answer: Yes, the standard Golden Max epoxy and the Sn Plated Steel Leads are compliant to RoHS specifications. Additionally, KEMET ceramic MLCCs, used as the internal component of the capacitor, are also RoHS compliant, not containing cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB, or PBDE.
