KEMET NetList Files - SIMPLIS/(SIMetrix)

SIMetrix/SIMPLIS simulation software (link to Simplis web site:http://www.simplistechnologies.com/)

Once you have downloaded the model files, you may install them in SIMetrix/SIMPLIS just like you would a MOSFET or Diode model. Just drag and drop the file icon (.ckt file extension) into the SIMetrix/SIMPLIS command shell window. Click the OK button on the resulting dialog box confirming that you want to install this model in the Model Library. You can then place the new capacitor on a schematic using the "Place | From Model Library | Capacitors" menu option.

These files (*.ckt) contain element values of a prescribed network, whose artwork may be seen in associated JPEG (*.jpg) or AutoCAD Symbol library files (*.slb). These files may be downloaded from the KEMET Spice web page.

Unique to these files is the second comment line defining the capacitor as polar:

This is a non-polar capacitor type of 10 nF capacitance rated at 100 VDC.

The files are collected in groups and compressed in Zip files. The 1st eight groups are divided by chip size, from 0201 through 2225. The zip file “KEMET Simplis MLCC C0201 SMD” consists of the ceramic chips or part types beginning with C0201. These include all dielectrics: C0G (Cap change of ±30 PPM/°C over temperature range of -55°C to 125°C), X5R (±15% from -55°C to 85°C ), X7R (±15% from -55°C to125°C ) , Y5V (+22%/-62% from -10°C to 85°C ), and Z5U (+22%/-56% from -30°C to 85°C ).

The tantalum commercial SMD capacitors, with MnO2 cathode systems include T489 (lower Leakage). the standard T491 (commercial), T494 (lower ESR by test version), T495 (lower ESR by design), T496 (internally fused for fail-safe), T497 (high reliability), T498 (+150°C operation), T499 (+175°C operation), and T510 (ultra-low ESR by multiple anodes).

For lower ESR devices, a conductive-polymer is used in place of the MnO2 cathode system, achieving ESRs down below 10 milliohms. These include types T520 (ESRs down to 4.5 milliohms, maximum temperature to 105°C), T521 (new higher voltage from 20Vdc to 35Vdc), T522 (lower Leakage), T525 (extended temperature range to +125°C), T528 (facedown package with ESLs approaching 100pH, and higher ripple capability), and T530 (higher capacitance but ultra-low ESRs down to 3 milliohms, and temperature range to 125°C).

Next are the surface-mount film capacitors. These are divided by dielectric types: PEN, PET, PPS, and Paper. The PEN are the polyethylene naphthalate with a temperature capability from -55°C to 150°C(125° is standard). These are characterized with dielectric constant of 3.0, minimum thickness of 1.4 um, typical dissipation factor of 0.4%, and a dielectric absorption rating of 1.2%. These include part types with series designations of GMC (boxed SMD), GMW (naked film SMD), and GPC (boxed SMD). More conventional SMD packages are offered in the LDE series with chip sizes from 1206 through 6250.

The PET are the polyester film capacitors with a temperature capability of -55°C to 125°C(100°C is standard). These are characterized with dielectric constant of 3.3, minimum thickness of 0.9 um, typical dissipation factor of 0.5%, and a dielectric absorption rating of 0.5%. These include part types with series designations of MMC (boxed SMD) for the surface mount capacitor and MDC ("L" Lead with offset), MDK (Insertion Leads), and MDS ("L" Leads with minimal offset) for the DIL surface mount packages.

The PPS are the polyethylene sulfide with a temperature capability from -55°C to 150°C(125° is standard). These are characterized with dielectric constant of 3.0, minimum thickness of 1.2 um, typical dissipation factor of 0.06%, and a dielectric absorption rating of 0.01%. These include part types with series designations of SPC (boxed SMD), SMC (boxed SMD), and SMW (naked film SMD). More conventional SMD packages are offered in the LDB series with chip sizes from 1206 through 1812.

The metalized Paper types are limited to the single series: SMP253. These are high-voltage capacitors explicitly designed for class Y2 EMI filtering. The voltage rating for these capacitors is 250 VAC, whereas all other capacitor types have their voltage ratings expressed as VDC.
