KEMET Supports Avoiding Tantalum Mined in Restricted Areas of Congo
Greenville, South Carolina (Original release: August 21, 2003, Updated: April 15, 2010) - KEMET Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: KEME) fully supports the position of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC), the Electronic Components, Assemblies and Materials Association (ECA) and the Tantalum-Niobium International Study Center (TIC) to avoid the use of tantalum ore coming from mines in environmentally protected areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kahuzi-Biega National Park and the Okapi Wildlife Reserve) in line with full compliance to the EICC's Electronic Industry Code of Conduct. KEMET's tantalum supply base has been and continues to be certified to be sourced from conflict free zones. All of KEMET’s tantalum material suppliers have complied with and issued signed Letters of Certification attesting that KEMET Corporation will not receive tantalum powders made from tantalum ores illegally mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo. KEMET will immediately discontinue doing business with any supplier found to be purchasing materials illegally sourced from protected areas of the DRC. KEMET will continue to work through the EICC, ECA and TIC towards the goal of greater transparency in the supply chain.
