KEMET Spice Software - Version 3.5.3
KEMET Spice is a freeware intended to aid design engineers in analyzing the performance of these capacitors over frequency, temperature, ripple, and dc bias conditions. The capacitor types include ceramic (MLCC), tantalum, polymer, and aluminum-polymer capacitor types. Each capacitor type behaves differently to the conditions of the circuit, some showing no changes to moderate changes, while others showing very large changes to these conditions. Although it is a stand-alone, Windows based program, it can create files that can be imported into some commercial versions of SPICE software.
 KEMET Spice users can Download KEMET Spice Software - Version 3.5.3 (8,689K). After the download is complete, double-click on it to install.
NOTE - Windows Vista users: You must click on the downloaded setup file and choose “Run as administrator” to install.
Installation ONLY file: This version does not include an update program as the Visual Basic runtime library is different in this version from previous versions.

May 1, 2008 Rev 3.5.3 incorporates the following changes:
• Cleared up problem with parallel resonance for combined impedance plots.
• New Command Line “/N, Part Number, Ambient Temp, DC Bias, Freq, File Name, File Path”, for quick creation of Netlist.
• Included new subdirectory (/CKTs) with Excel file of PNs for generating subcircuits, Zipped collection of 6,232 subcircuit (NetList) files, and JPEG files.
• Corrected NetList file format to conform to pSpice and 5Spice libraries.
• Added plot of Temperature Rise vs. Ripple Current at 5 standard frequencies plus two selectable frequencies.
• Tantalum/Aluminum models replaced. Two resistors in series combined as one to reduce element counts. Models reflect reduction in elements by one. Added 3 step RC-Ladder capability.
• Modified graphics on 3 forms to be visible with Windows Vista.
• Modified Parallel Resistance calculations to typical rather than minimum.
• Will not accept non-numeric entry for power rating temperature rise (^W).
• Fixed problems with command line entry and Choose Type form entry of PNs.
• Fixed problems with Model images fitting in form for different screen resolutions.
• Instituted decrease of Leakage or increase in Insulation Resistance at temperatures below 25°C.
• Added T428, CWR09 (58 T409), CWR19 (105 T419), and CWR29 (161 T429), conductive-polymer high voltage (35 T525) part types.
• Tantalum/Aluminum Part count at 2,403 (+415)
• Ceramic SMD part count at 2,285 (+57 chip)

A method of predicting reliability based on stress and environmental factors has been available for many capacitor types. The calculations found in MIL-HDBK-217 (revision F) allow the ambient temperature, application bias, and environmental factors to create multipliers of established failure rates for many military part types. Based on the monitored reliability of the non-military, commercial part types, these same multipliers can be used to define a projected application failure rate. The failure rates are listed as “FIT” (failures in time), and “MTBF” (mean time before failure).
This calculator software is intended to follow the calculations spelled out in this handbook for the specific part types that KEMET manufactures: ceramic multilayer capacitors, solid-tantalum capacitors, and the latest, the solid-aluminum capacitors. Just enter the capacitance, the voltage rating, and the part type, and the calculations are immediate. Manipulate the temperature and the voltage to see the impacts instantly.

This software is applicable for Windows(95, 98, 2000 and XP) and NT. Please refer to the program for a revision history from previous versions.
