The Power of Light
By Per Loof, March 17, 2015
At a recent social event, I was discussing KEMET’s humanitarian efforts in the mining village of Kisengo in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with my friend Patrick Henning, founder and President of Tansoo, Inc. His Company enables customers to purchase and distribute high quality products from manufacturers worldwide. Our discussion turned to the positive impact that Tansoo’s donation of flashlights have had on children in Haiti affected by the 2010 earthquake. It is amazing to think that something as simple as light could profoundly change a child’s life.
I reached out to Patrick to see if he would be willing to help in facilitating the delivery of flashlights to the DRC and he happily agreed.
I am very excited to report that this month, KEMET teamed up with our Kisengo Foundation and Upright Africa to begin delivery of much-needed supplies to the Kisengo mining community. We are filling a container with a variety of medical supplies (sanitizers, surgical instruments, mobility aides) and school equipment (tables, benches and books) that will be shipped to Kisengo. We also included 2,000 Duracell® LED flashlights intended to enhance reading, safety and mobility for the school children of Kisengo.
